The morning of Friday February 8th Oscar told me his sister Helen had tickets to see Chicago that night at 8pm, but she wasn't going to be able to use them. We've wanted to see Chicago for awhile so we were both excited. During the day I read all about Chicago on-line, called Oscar to report that one of his favorite Star Trek actresses is now the lead and told everyone at work we were going to the show. 7:45pm rolled around and I was still waiting at my desk. I was calling him over and over again on his cell phone and told him I would meet him at the theater. He told me to sit tight because he was in a cab on the way and he promised we would not be late for the show. I went down to the corner of 54th and Lexington so I could hop into his cab and we could go straight to the theater. After standing on the corner for five minutes I looked across the street and there was Oscar standing next to a white stretch limo. My heart dropped.

He can't keep a secret to save his life and after all these years I didn't think he could surprise me, but he totally did. In the limo we were sitting across from each other and as he asked me to marry him he nervously tossed the ring box onto my lap. I said yes, put the ring on my finger and he whisked me away to Forest Hills for a banana spilt at the Baskin-Robbins where we spent many afternoons. After our pre-dinner dessert we took the limo back into the city to Tavern on the Green for dinner. I was so excited to come home and start telling everyone I almost convinced him to skip dinner, but I'm glad we didn't. Just about ten years ago, on my seventeenth birthday Oscar picked me up in Rockaway, where I spent the summers, and took me to dinner at Tavern on the Green. We hadn't been back since.

We still haven't seen Chicago.
